FEATURE: Dsquared²

When I think of prominent Canadian fashion designers the first brand that comes to mind is Dsquared².  Dsquared² has been worn by some of the biggest names in entertainment, such as Madonna, Fergie, Beyonce, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar and many many more.  In today’s feature I will be discussing the history of the fabulous men that created this iconic brand and showing you some of my favourite looks they’ve created.

Dsquared² is founded by identical twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten who were born and raised right here in Toronto. Their interest in fashion pushed them to study fashion in New York at Parson’s School of Design, however they only attended the school for one semester. From the late 80s to the 90s the twins launched their first brand called DEanDAN as well as a lower end leisure brand Tabi International. Years later they moved to Italy where they worked for Versace and Diesel, and Diesel later funded and launched Dean and Dan’s flagship brand that we now know as Dsquared².

Dsquared² style can be described as fun and eclectic, with designs that draw on their Canadian heritage with an international flare. Therefore it is no surprise that their brand slogan is “Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy”.
